Audio Highlights


 

 

In the new audio archive you can listen to a selection of legendary Karajan recordings. Included in the archive are highlights from Richard Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier (recorded in 1957) and Also sprach Zarathustra (1959), from Claude Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande (1979), from Symphony No. 5 in E flat major op. 82 by Jean Sibelius (1965), from Symphony No. 10 in E minor op. 93 by Dmitri Shostakovich (1967), from Gustav Mahler's Symphony no. 9 (1982) and from Sphärenklänge by Johann Strauss (recorded at the 1987 New Year's Concert).

The database of the Karajan Archive includes 3345 performances that are thematically linked to Herbert von Karajan. It includes all the performances in which Karajan took part himself (starting with his earliest performance as a pianist in 1915), as well as the memorial events after his death.

The 1279 recordings also provide an overview of the conductor's extensive recording activity.
